Indian Museum Field Trip

Fitting for our upcoming Thanksgiving celebrations we took a field trip to our local Indian Museum. We learned so much!

The Indians used the structure below as shade for steamy hot days.

We were even able go inside a real tepee, and learned the women of the tribes could take down and put up a tepee in as little as 15min.

Below is how they stored their food up away from animal.

I was worried this field trip may not be age appropriate for our youngsters, but the director did a super job keeping it simple, and yet still very informative for both the kids and adults.

We learned so much about the Indian culture...I highly recommend this tour to everyone young and old.

Field Trip to the Firestation

Today we met up with our Field Trip group to tour the fire station!

The kids were scared of the firefighter, but we learned it is really important to not be afraid of them if you are ever in a fire...

They were even able to practice a mock fire escape.

The squad truck made a call during the tour, red lights and sirens!!! We even saw how long it took for them to get out of the drive way, since no one would stop for them:(

This picture was taken right after a gas explosion occurred while all four of them where still in the house... We are so very thankful they all, especially my daddy, came out unscathed... Hearing stories like that just make it all the more real how dangerous their jobs really are, and how they give so much of themselves for the lives and properties of others. Thank you Poppy, my Daddy, for being our hero!

St. Patty's Party

As legend goes, in the mid 400's A.D. Patrick was born in England and abducted into slavery by the Irish. He escaped and went on a journey to Rome where he discovered Christianity. He was instructed by an angel to return to Ireland to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the people there. He did many wonderful things with the powers of God behind him. He is now the patron saint of Ireland.

We celebrated with some fun St. Patrick's Day games.

We learned some fun poems!

They had a treasure hunt and did some arts and crafts.

All while the dad's provided the background music;)

Vv for Valentine's, Nana Val, Volcanoes and Vowels

It's been a while since I've posted on our school blog, but that does not mean we haven't been busy in our studies... Since Thanksgiving we've learned about Cc, Oo, Yy, Uu, Qq, and Gg! Some big milestones the kids have achieved in Pre~K thus far are; K~girl is reading 4-5 letter words, and knows nearly all of her pre-k/kindergarten sight words. K~girl can count to 100, and count by 5's and 10's on our number chart. A~boy can count to 100 too and can count by 10's, with a little help from us. We are so very proud of them, and are constantly amazed with the things they pick up, even when we think they aren't getting it. They even have a mysterious teacher out there, we still have no clue who it is??? Many times they will surprise me with what they know even with information I know I haven't taught them yet. I ask them where they learned it from and they both have responded on many different occasions "my teacher taught me". Some kids have imaginary friends, but ours have imaginary teachers???

We've also spent 2 weeks with the letter Vv learning our vowel letters and studying Volcanoes! I found a great animation that helped me teach/learn more about Volcanoes! It's amazing how I can learn along side my 3 and 4 year old~ I don't know if that is a good, or bad thing;)

Our field trip group had a Valentine's Party!!!

We made valentine's bags, ate very yummy heart cookies, and played BINGO!!!

Valentines to Our Troops!

I was sent some names and addresses of troops serving overseas who could use a care package or valentines card. K~girl loved "her" K week!!! We actually planned this week around a greatly anticipated field trip to KrispyKreme Doughnuts!!! I'm sure she thought it was just for her too, since doughnuts are her favorite!!!

Here we actually get to see the whole process!!!

We can't go learn about doughnuts without tasting one... two... or more like a dozen:)

Pp for Pumpkin...

and peach pie, pancakes, popcorn, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin pie, PIZZA...there's just too many yummy things that start with the letter Pp, we had to spread this one out to two weeks or we would have quite the tummy ache.

After learning so much about pumpkins at the pumpkin patch, the only thing left to do was cut into them!

Aunt Corie was even there to help with carving!!!
We baked the seeds and used them for our math lessons the rest of the week!

Daddy planned a special field trip for the kids~ Looking for fall leaves!!!

Looks like they were in the right spot;) K~girl and A~boy collected all different types of leaves and put them in a photo album!

Apple Week!!!

Bible Lesson: Adam and Eve and the forbidden fruit.

We learned so much about apples this week:

Did you know if you cut the apple in half you will see a star shape!

So we painted apples to make star stamps!

We also learned in our book that fresh apples float, because 25% of their volume is air. We thought this would be a wonderful science experiment.

We had one fresh apple and one apple setting out for about 2 weeks, and it was looking pretty bad.

As you see from K~girl and A~boys conclusion this theory did not work for us. They both were still floating. The apple must really have to be in bad shape;)

Last apple lesson was in math...

We learned about whole, half, 1/4's and 1/8's. They also learned just because there are many pieces and it looks like more, it is actually equal to the other half.

Here are some more fun facts about apples:
1. It takes 36 apples to make one gallon of apple cider.
2. Apples are part of the rose family???
3. It takes apple trees 4-5 years to produce their first fruit.
4. There are more than 7,500 varieties of apples grown throughout the world. About 2,500 varieties are grown in the United States.
5. K~girl and A~boy's favorite apples are of the green variety. But we couldn't end Apple week without Mommy's favorite apple...

October Field Trips!!!

Cowtown

This field trip took us back in time to a County Fair in the 1800's, but first we need a fire lesson.

With this trailer we were able to see how prepared the kids were if a fire broke out in the house. Being a daughter of a fire fighter I thought we had this one covered with our already multiple fire drills...Sorry Dad, looks like we need more practice... A~boy just sat their crying, but K~girl did go out the window right away!

Off to the 1800's they go!!!

Here the kids had a chance to experience a spelling lesson in a one room school house.

Hammer Time!

They printed their own tickets on the old time printing press!

We learned people back then couldn't just go buy their clothing in a store like we do now.

Walton's Pumpkin Patch

It was a perfect pumpkin picking day, with all the typical fall Kansas weather~ cold and windy!

It could have been raining and we still would have had an extrordinary experience.This was such a beautiful place.

They had so many activities for the kids...

and for Mommy and Daddy too!

What you don't see is us jumping on the big balloon. It was too fun I had to put the camera down!

In the middle of all the fun we worked some school in. We learned all about pumpkins, and how most pumpkin farms will set bee hives up around the pumpkin patch to help in pollination. Very interesting...

Time to find that perfect pumpkin!
